1800-1810

1801: All settlers finally agree to General Henry Knox’s terms, and Canaan and Ducktrap Plantations are quiet.


June 23, 1802: Ducktrap and Canaan Plantations are incorporated into the Town of Lincolnville, named for Major General Benjamin Lincoln of Massachusetts, a Revolutionary War general.


1802: A charter is granted for a toll bridge at the Ducktrap River to be operated by George Ulmer.
Another charter allows Daniel Barret to operate a toll road along Megunticook Lake from Lincolnville to Camden, known as the Turnpike.


September 20, 1802: The first town meeting is held at the log cabin of John and Thankful Calderwood. Three selectmen are elected to run the town.
