Lincolnville Timeline

1830-1840

Population is 1,704.

Each landowner along the shore has rights to a fishing berth, the stretch of shore where a weir and nets could be set to catch salmon. This fishery provides springtime cash for farming families. In early days families salt and smoke the fish or dry it; by 1900 the catch is shipped to Boston fresh on ice.

1835: The church building on Route 1 at Lincolnville Beach is built. Today it is known at Bayshore Baptist Church
